Chemguide: Core Chemistry 14 - 16

Electrolysis Menu

An introduction to the electrolysis . . .

An explanation of some of the key words and ideas in electrolysis.

The electrolysis of molten compounds . . .

Electrolysis using molten compounds such as molten lead(II) bromide, or molten sodium chloride.

Electrolysing aqueous solutions using inert electrodes . . .

The electrolysis of a wide range of ionic solutions using inert electrodes such as carbon.

Electrolysis using non-inert electrodes . . .

The electrolysis of copper(II) sulfate solution using copper electrodes and silver nitrate solution using a silver anode.

Electrolysis calculations . . .

These are covered in the Calculations section of the site, and this link will take you there. There is no point in following this link unless you are already happy with moles and calculations from equations.

If you should be happy with these, but aren't, you will need to explore the whole of the calculations menu, but that is going to take some time.
